Diffusion weighted MRI (DW-MRI) and HARDI techniques, analysis of neurodegenerative disorders and connectivity in brain white matter; statistical modelling and image processing.

Diffusion weighted MRI (DW-MRI) and HARDI techniques, analysis of neurodegenerative disorders and connectivity in brain white matter; statistical modelling and image processing, application of curve evolution and level sets method in biomedical imagery; statistical modelling and data analysis.

Example Research Title: Characterisation of diffusion anisotropy and detection of microstructural characteristics in fibrous tissues Can fiber structures be detected by analysing the signal of water diffusion in tissues?

Application Area:

In the diagnosis of neurological diseases for example: Present fiber populations and detect the alteration of microstructures in stroke.

Research: Reconstruct acquired diffusion signals in voxels and characterising diffusion anisotropy.

Calculate measure indices for quantitatively analysing the alteration of tissural microstructures.

Develop techniques to detect fiber orientations and visualise fiber tracts. e.g. using the software Avizo (XQuant) and ImageJ.

Looking for Commercial Partners: To support or develop new projects in DW-MRI. Medical image analysis and understanding.

Collaboration:

Prof. Reyer Zwiggelaar at Aberystwyth University developing image analysis software for clinical studies and biomedical applications.
