Third Mission
There are three Knowledge Exploitation Officers (KEOs) working for the four Universities amalgamation; Dr Robert Gittins (Bangor and Aberystwyth Universities), Kingsley Stock (Cardiff University) and Adrian Morris (Swansea University).
KEOs are tasked with developing Third Mission activities; Third mission activities in universities stimulate and direct the application and exploitation of knowledge to the benefit of the social, cultural and economic development of our society. A recent example is a cross discipline and inter-university collaborative project for The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) award, gained by RIVIC Bangor in collaboration with RIVIC members at Aberystwyth University, where the aim is to build on the work from the Science and Heritage Programme Research Clusters awards to encourage collaborative arts- and humanities-led research. The Bangor lead bid to develop the use of specialise 3D visualisation tools which adapt and capture images from both recent and historic photographs was successful and will commence in February. The project design ensures society involvement, especially direct and deep involvement of interested members of the local community.
